Five for me.

I've gone with 6, but if Howe can beat Brentford and also take wins from the key Burnley and Norwich home games, that'll go down to a 3 before we even get to January. If we can also somehow get some points from Leicester, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City, then I'll be down to a 1.

5 for me too, although the next 3 or 4 games will be critical.

It just occurred to me that, whatever happens, this is the last season we'll ever need a relegation thread

I have a hard time with the "January money" thinking. Yes, we'll have lots of it, but unless we can bring in half a team that will gel seamlessly and instantly, it won't get better straight away. And let's not forget, it's entirely unknown how the window will go. We still haven't got a DOF in, we still don't have a CEO in.
Burnley is the more important of the two fixtures this week because they're higher up. If we don't beat them, I think I'm going to an 8.
When I did the predicted table, 40 points was not needed like it has been traditionally. I think that's been pretty clear the last few years. The flip side, as you say, is the top end of the table is even harder to get results against. Rafa had it spot on when he focused entirely on the 'mini league' at the bottom and got the right results against those. That's what we need to do, but dropping points like on Tuesday make it much harder. You won't get an easier fixture than Norwich at home and we shot ourselves in the foot.

We all know the caveats about bringing new players in but how can you discuss our relegation prospects without 'January money' thinking as you put it? It's massive. This squad as it is is going down, there's not much doubt about that even factoring in some improvement under Howe's coaching. We have to strengthen and hope we get it right.
They do need to get their finger out with this DoF like. It'll help a lot if we bring new blood in early and they should be doing the groundwork on this now.
